The primary teachers had come to the Satyagraha camp to protest against the demands including grade pay, but the protest was not held as the police did not allow them to do so. Police detained about 50 teachers from different places. The grade pay received by primary teachers over the years was abruptly reduced from Rs 4,200 to Rs 2,800. In addition, the state education department has ordered teachers recruited after the year 2010 to get the benefit of low grade pens. The teachers intensified the protest program through social media. After that, a meeting was held with the Deputy Chief Minister of the Teachers Union, Nitin Patel, in which the questions of the teachers were resolved.

65,000 teachers in the
state will get 4200 grade pay. From now on, 65,000 primary teachers across the state will get 4200 grade pay as the first higher pay scale as per the previous system, said Nitin Patel. The Department of Education had postponed the letter dated 25-06-2019 to give 2800 grade-pay instead of 4200 grade-pay to primary teachers as the first higher salary standard from 16th July 2020. In a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday Considering the long-term representations of the teachers, the Chief Minister has instructed to cancel the letter with effect. He further said that now as a result, 4200 grade-pay for primary teachers will remain the same as the first higher pay scale and the concerned teachers will be given the benefit from their due date.
What was the 4200 grade pay controversy?
The state's primary teachers have been getting 4200 grade pay since 1994 after 9 years in the job. But the Gujarat government had issued a circular in the year 2019 that now the teachers who have been recruited after the year 2010 will get the first higher salary standard 2800 grade pay after 9 years of service. More than 65,000 teachers across the state will be affected by the government's pay cut, teachers said. For this, the education union has also made all possible efforts to resolve these issues in various ways. Teachers have also launched a campaign on social media on the issue.
