Lightning struck the river and the water boiled

Monsoon has already started in almost all the states. Currently, there has been a lot of devastation after Cyclone Taukat in Gujarat followed by Cyclone Yas in South. Meanwhile, many misleading videos also went viral. Now a video is going viral on Facebook, in which scenes of lightning striking the river are seen.




The video was shared by Facebook users with the caption “Amazing view of lightning in river”.

A similar video published in December 2012 on YouTube channel 'Porapaalutusta' is found when doing a google reverse umage search on a viral video of lightning in a river. The video is captioned "We take the waterway to greater depths."

Facts about the viral video can be found at the website link www.merityo.fi provided with the YouTube video. According to the information available on the website, a company named Rannikon Merityö Oy which is based in Finland, this construction company is working on projects like pier piling, dredging, underwater mining.


In addition, a further search shows viral video posts from January 2018 on Merityö Company's official Facebook page. The caption given with the post is giving information about the work of the company. It reads “Contact us for Waterway Deepening and Underwater Excavation”

According to the information about the lightning incident in the river, the viral video is quite misleading. The video, published on YouTube in December 2012, is also a video of the incident being blasted by a Finnish company doing underwater excavation. The video has been shared by Facebook users with misleading claims of lightning striking the river.



According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur in Central Gujarat may experience heavy to heavy rain today. So, following the forecast of heavy rain in Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, the Meteorological Department has announced yellow alert. Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted today at scattered places of Surat, Bharuch and Narmada in South Gujarat. Yellow alert has also been issued in Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad following the forecast of heavy rain.




Following the torrential rains, 20 talukas of the state have so far received more than 100 percent rainfall. Dwarka has received the highest 237.66 percent, while Manavadar and Porbandar have received more than 150 percent of the rainfall so far. 11 talukas have received less than 20 percent of monsoon season rainfall so far. Only 3.84 inches in Kankerage, Baid Disa, Dhansura, Balasinore, Kalol, Unjha received less than 18 percent rainfall.
